An international aid agency is looking to form partnerships with travel companies to offer volunteering experiences to holidaymakers.
One Horizon Africa is an international aid agency with registered offices in Kenya, South Africa and Australia and runs over 100 projects at any one time including rehabilitation and rescue centres for abandoned children, women's refuges and community schools.
One Horizon Africa was set up 12 years ago by Colin Murray, who had worked in Africa and had been shocked at the number of people in poverty.
"I was appalled by people's indifference," he said.
One Horizon is not a volunteer organization for backpackers - most of those that help out are on a safari holiday and spend between one and seven days working with One Horizon as an added experience.
The majority of clients are over 45 years old and the oldest have been in their late 70s.
The work is not manual labor. Instead it involves helping to feed toddlers and helping carrying out health checks.
Murray added: "A lot of the issues around poverty are easily solved. With practical solutions we can make a difference.
"I am looking for wholesalers or groups that want to package One Horizon itineraries. We have been running tours of our centres and projects for many years so we are very good at hosting visitors."
