The RGS is opposite Hyde Park
The Totem/VISION 2009 Sustainable Tourism Masterclass will be held in the Royal Geographical Society’s Council Room on 18th September.
This year’s title will be ‘Sustainable Tourism Creation & Marketing – Challenges & Opportunities in 2009’
Presenters have yet to be announced but it is understood that Rachel McCaffery of Virgin Holidays and Dr Murray Simpson of Oxford University Centre for the Environment will be in the line up. Presenters last year were Dr Stefan Gossling of Stockholm Environment Institute, James Whittingham of TUI, Jon Mitchell of the Overseas Development Institute, Ben Muir of Cleaner Climate and Valere Tjolle of VISION on Sustainable Tourism.
Said Valere Tjolle “There is a perception that sustainable tourism is a “Do-Gooders Charter” and will be dropped as soon as a storm looms. It’s not.
"And the RGS is absolutely the right place to hold it, for the last 180 years, through thick and thin, they have been promoting public engagement and informed enjoyment of our world."
The day includes a light lunch at the RGS and an early supper at Daylesford Organic on Harvey Nicholls’ fifth floor.
Last year's masterclass was a real success and a regular networking grooup has been set up as a result.
Participants in the full day masterclass, will hear, and participate in presentations from international experts in marketing and sustainable tourism.
The masterclass is directed at senior executives in the travel and tourism industry, ministers, top level government officials and advisors from tourist ministries, hotels, spas, resorts, tour operators, visitor attractions and destination management and marketing organisations.
Participants will expect to take away a broad understanding of the unique marketing opportunities that sustainability brings including the “Quadruple Bottom Line”.
