Another successful fringe networking evening took place last night downstairs at the Abacus bar in London. The Best of Britain and Ireland Show currently being held at Excel helped to ensure its success by promoting it in the sustainability suite. The event was organised through the recently created Fringe Travel network FringeTravel that aims to provide a space for local travel organisations to 'meet, engage, inspire!'. Similar events held around World Travel Market WTM and ITB in Berlin ITBhave become increasingly popular over the years since the first one in 2006.
Hopefully this smaller event will inspire others around the world to take the initiative and organise their own small gatherings to help connect, and exchange best practices on caring for destinations. The informal environment and free food platters laid on by the Abacus bar made this event a delightfully laid back affair and indicative of what can be done at short notice with minimal organisation.
Some of those that attended were Wild Green Travel, Exeter University Business School Tribewanted, Gyreum Eco Lodge, South West Tourism Sustainability, Your Safe Planet, Make Travel Fair, VISION on Sustainable Tourism.
