'Leakage' claims: Muddled thinking and bad for policy? Says ODI

Eco-Tourism"Leakage" pessimists do us a disservice. The analysis uses muddled thinking and poor arithmetic to generate the wrong answer to an inappropriate policy question. The exaggerated claims divert attention from an important challenge at hand boosting the linkages between tourism and the rest of the local economy." Say Caroline Ashley and Jonathan Mitchell of the ODI in a recent paper slating tourism pessimists.

The paper is part of a major tourism development initiative by the award-winning think-tank.

Other Tourism papers include:

- "ProPoor Tourism What Gone Right and What Gone Wrong".
- "Can Tourism Offer Pathways to Prosperity?"
- And "Assessing how Tourism Revenues reach the Poor"
- There is also a tourism Blog "How do We Mainstream ProPoor Tourism" by Jonathan Mitchell.
